Here's where the idea came from:
A few friends and I have been avoiding boredom for years by way of text-battling each other. Not that explanation is needed, but this is where we would text verses thought up on the spot back and forth trying to outdo the previous one. We found limitations in writing to each other this way, some being fun challenges and others just limiting. So what you are looking at right now is my attempt at exceeding these limitations. I decided upgrade the medium from text messaging to email.
Here is the general Idea:
There will be one master email account created. Anyone who wants to contend and get a shot at the title will email their verse to this account. That simple. Your email address WILL NOT be used for anything besides your way to send me verses. I will not give your email address to anyone or any of that shady-type business. As opposed to using tournament style competitions to determine champions, this blog will use king-of-the-hill style battles. This means that the best verse to date will sit as current champion in that division. 20 successful title defenses will get that person inducted into the Hall-Of-Fame and create an opening once again in that divsion. I will post all updates on Monday of every week. I will post ALL verses submitted, either under Contender or Champion in the corresponding division that you are gunning for.
Here's how it is going to work:
I have set up 5 initial divisions. They are as follows:
- Old School Text Division
- 160 Characters Max
- Any number of bars
- Forces you to be creative & efficient
- Tweet Style
- 140 Characters Max
- Any number of bars
- We will tweet all verses unless you don’t want us to
- Be sure to include link if you want that posted too
- Classic Sixteen
- 16 Bars no hook
- Will be one of the more coveted titles
- Shows song writing ability
- 16 Bars, No Less, No More
- Alliterations
- Verses will include as many words that start with the same letter as possible
- Listen to Saigon’s Letter P ft. Kool G Rap
- I’m not setting any guidelines accept the above reference
- Topic Based
- I will choose a random topic every week
- This will only give people a week max to write their verse adding a bit of difficulty for some. This one will be fun.
I am always open to suggestions for new divisions. I will not manage more than a total of 10 divisions at any one time. I will only create a new division when there is a demand for a new division. This means that all existing divisions must have a minimum of 5 participants. Entering a division can only be done so by way of battling.
Judging will be done by me for all battles that I am not competing in. I have created an agreement with impartial Craph T Seen Gulz that allows him to judge for all battles that I participate in. I did it this way as opposed to using an outside voting system in order to avoid the forming of groups. Voters teaming together could pose way more of a bias than I ever could personally. I will read all emails in regards to battle opinions and take them into consideration however. Feel free to let me know how you feel about any battle taking place.
I have already organized some battles with existing members in order to establish rankings in some of the divisions.
If you email a verse I will post it. Your verse will then be open for battle. If someone wants to smash it with their own verse, that too will get posted. It is at this point that you will have to answer the question.... How was my service? That simple. Keep your verses division-orientated so I have a place to put them and a way to rank you.
